Last week, the Sipsmith Gin Palace at The Langham, London opened its doors.

The Palm court, which is traditionally associated with afternoon tea, was transformed into an opulent gin palace celebrating the glamour of the mid 1800’s.

As a Story newbie, this was my first event, and it did not disappoint. Not only was there some celeb spotting (ahem Nelly Furtado AND Justin Bieber were staying in the hotel; didn’t see Justin, just his groupies outside), the cocktails and jazz were a very enjoyable way to pass the evening.

We drank cocktails specially designed for the Sipsmith Gin Palace by Sipsmith Master Distiller, Jared Brown and The Langham’s Head Mixologist Alex Kratena.

The bar menu celebrates the history of gin, each cocktail will represent a different stage in the evolution of the classic spirit; from 1690 when gin was first born, to the invention of the first G&T in 1793 and finally arriving at the 21st century with the rise of molecular mixology.

The Gin Palace at The Langham is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for the next 6 weeks, from 7pm until midnight.
